Memorial Day 2025

Today, yet again, we celebrate and remember the lives of those who died in service to our nation, more specifically in combat. Being in the military, sometimes I was assigned to dangerous missions, but I came through unscathed. Yet, I recall a few shipmates or other service members I knew of that died or were injured in combat. Thankfully, not many in my career field wound up on the front lines, but occasionally it happened. When it did, we typically made it out without issues. Sometimes though people died. I didn;t personally know many of them, but there were a few. With that in mind, I think of people I never met like Uncle Jack Bolt (my dad’s maternal uncle), who died from mustard gas poisoning in WWI or those who I knew of that died in the Middle East, like CTICS Shannon Kent.

While Memorial Day of the USA is designed to remember those members of the military who died in service to the United States of America, as Christians, we should also remember those who died in service to the Lord. Christianity Today states that an estimated 70 million believers have been martyred since Christ walked the earth. They died for their faith, they died to spread the Gospel, they died aiding others. Some even died just for the fact they were Christian. Let us remember them too and thank them in our hearts for their service to Christ.
